Daimon: A Prequel to Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Genre: YA Paranormal

The Story: (from Goodreads) "Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee!' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life."

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards… and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

(Covenant #1)

Half- Blood

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Paperback, 308 pages
Expected publication: September 15th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press

Questions:

Why did you decide to become an author?
I've always wanted to be an author, but I can pinpoint an exact moment when I decided I would become one. I'd say it probably occurred after I realized I wasn't going to be a criminal psychologist, a trapeze artists or a veterinarian.

 What inspires you to write?
Honestly?Boredom. Okay. It's more than just boredom, but the ability to actually escape the every day life and immerse yourself in the character's world. There is nothing better than that.

Are you a full time writer or do you write in your spare time?
I write every second of the day that I can.

Favourite book that you read?
I have several. Ahem, The Forbidden Game by LJ Smith, Playing Hurt by Holly Schindler, The Demon's Trapper's Daughter by Jana Oliver and a lot more.

What helps you write?
I guess I can't answer with boredom again, but seriously, when I'm bored--which is a lot-- I write. Music helps, too.

If you were stuck on an island, name two things you could bring with you?
My laptop and a genie. The genie so he can grant me wishes and I can bring more stuff with me.

What are you looking forward to the most in the year?
Pfft. Nothing cool is happening this year. Oh yeah, wait. Half-Blood comes out in September. I *may* be looking forward to that.

Describe the weirdest/spontaneous thing you did?
Once I bungee jumped. I don't know if that is weird. Probably just stupid. Why jump off a perfectly stable ledge with a freaking rope tied to you?

What inspired you to write Half-Blood?
I've always been a big fan of Greek Mythology, especially the demigod aspect of it all. I've always wanted to write a story using Greek Mythology.

What is your favourite quote from Half-Blood or Daimon?
From Daimon: "Who did I have to kill to get some Count Chocula up in this house?"
From Half-Blood: It's a toss up between "I glanced down at the dumbbell and pictured it flying across the room—at his face. But it was such a nice face, and I’d hate to ruin it." and "I’d be super-pissed in the afterlife if I died a virgin in this craphole."

Favourite character to write about in your novel?
Wow, that's hard to say. Each of the characters are my favorites in their own way. Alex, because she is so darn snarky and fun to write. Aiden, because he is very complicated to write. He's kind of a loof and introverted, but when he does share what he's thinking or feeling, it's pretty epic. And of course, Seth, because he pretty much gets to say what everything is thinking and wishing they could say.

What is your favourite thing to write about?
Love and romance. It's a big theme in any book I write. Of course, there is action and adventure, but I just love to write about, well, love.

Thanks for having me! Loved your questions!

I can't wait to read this book and hear much more about this series in the near future! Please purchase the novel when it hits stores in September!
